Search engine optimisation (SEO) helps people find your business when they search for what you offer. It can sound technical and mysterious, but for most small businesses a handful of basics — done properly and consistently — deliver most of the results. Here they are, without jargon.
1. Know what customers search for
Write down how customers describe your services in their own words: "GST billing software", "website designer in Chandigarh", "AMC software for RO dealers". These phrases are your keywords. Tools and Google's own search suggestions help you find variations.
2. Give each important topic its own page
Search engines rank pages, not websites. A separate page for each main service, with a focused title and content, ranks much better than one page listing everything.
3. Write clear titles and descriptions
Every page needs a unique title of around 50–60 characters that includes its main keyword, and a meta description of around 150 characters that explains the benefit and invites the click.
4. Write helpful content
Answer the questions customers actually ask: what it is, how it works, what it costs, how long it takes, why choose you. Usefulness matters far more than word count or keyword repetition.
5. Keep the site technically healthy
- Fast loading, especially on mobile
- Mobile-friendly design
- HTTPS
- A sitemap submitted to Google Search Console
- No broken links or missing pages
6. Build your local presence
A complete, accurate Google Business Profile with photos and genuine reviews is essential for local searches.
7. Earn links
Mentions and links from relevant, trustworthy websites — suppliers, associations, local news, partners — build your site's authority.
8. Be patient and consistent
SEO results build over months. Regular improvements and new helpful content compound over time.
